Looking Back: 30 years ago, areas were under a blackout
Thirty years ago, in 1990, several areas were plunged into a blackout lasting five hours, when a transformer was struck by something that could have been a gunshot or a golf ball.
Laurie Strawberry was crowned Miss Atmore 1990. Her sister, Anna Lisa Strawbridge, was the winner of the same title last year for 1989. It was the first time sisters have won the same title and back to back. They are both the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Strawbridge of Atmore.
Atmore was getting ready for Mayfest 1990. It was announced that there would be a Beautiful Baby Contest on May 5, at the Tom Byrne Park.
Another featured highlight of Mayfest was to be a pet parade and show.
Others, besides the mayor, also thought Trawick made remarks that were cruel and untrue.
